Dr. Gerard T. Kennealey Joins MGI PHARMA as Senior Vice President, Clinical Development

MINNEAPOLIS--(HSMN NewsFeed)--May 25, 2006--MGI PHARMA, INC. (Nasdaq:MOGN ), an oncology- and acute care-focused biopharmaceutical company, today announced that Gerard T. Kennealey, M.D. has joined the MGI PHARMA management team in the newly-created position of Senior Vice President, Clinical Development. During his 18-year tenure at AstraZeneca, Dr. Kennealey served in a variety of clinical, research and medical affairs leadership roles.

A board certified medical oncologist with more than 30 years of experience, including 10 years as a practicing physician, Dr. Kennealey brings to MGI PHARMA a wealth of clinical development expertise. He was most recently Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at EXIMIAS.

Dr. Kennealey received his B.S. degree in biology from Boston College and his M.D. from the Yale University School of Medicine.
